  _HISTORY

--------

Corinth Baptist Church was established in the year 1890 as a Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. This early date makes our church one of the oldest churches in this area. Little specifics are known about the organization of the church. However, we do know that the original church building was located on the Corinth Cut-off Road. The first pastor of our church was Reverend Jimmy Johnson. On May 14, 1920, Corinth Baptist Church reorganized and became a Southern Baptist Church.

The original church building was built directly across the street from where our current facilities are now. The second church building was built in 1924. The all-wooden building was located where the current sanctuary is today. As the church body grew, members felt the Lord leading them to add new facilities for Sunday School rooms, a fellowship hall with a kitchen, and a new sanctuary. A white cinder block structure was constructed in 1967, affixed to the western end (behind the pulpit area) of the current sanctuary, and served this purpose well. It also served as a temporary sanctuary while the new sanctuary was being built.

The old wooden building was torn down and the new sanctuary was completed and dedicated in May, 1968. As some of you may remember, the pew cushions and carpet were originally red. As the curch grew, it becamse necessary to build a larger fellowship hall. So, in 1985, the red brick fellowship hall was completed, which also contained some additional classrooms for Sunday School. The church added the panel walls in the old fellowship hall to provide space for the choir room -- this room is still used for this purpose today. As God continued to bless our church with growth, it was decided to extend the sanctuary to allow more pews for seating. This remodeling and extension was completed in 1991, and is the current sanctuary that you see today. Additional growth led our church in 1996 to extend the fellowship hall to allow more seating during our famous, well-loved "Eatin' Meetins".

As God continued to bless our church with growth, members felt led to provide additional classroom space for Sunday School. Under the Lord's leadership, the church began the new, two-story building inbetween the old and new fellowship hall in April, 1998, and completed the first stage (first floor) in 1999. As part of this building project, the white cinder block building was bricked over to match the rest of our facilities. The second stage (second floor) was completed in the Summer of 2000, which provided more space for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

In the Fall of 2001, the church saw the need to change the three rooms in the hallway next to the Pastor's Study into a conference room, a library, and an office for the Secretary.

We have extended our church parking lot to accomodate our ever-growing church. In the Spring of 2002 we added approximately twenty parking spaces to help with our growing church number.

In February of 2003, our church voted and began the remodeling of the church kitchen that you see today. The remodeling of the fellowship hall has included many new cabinets, two large bars for serving food, a fryer for the kitchen, a dishwasher and new flooring. The old restrooms were done away with to allow space for a pantry and a storage room which encloses our freezers and ice machine. This project was completed in May, 2003.

This past fall (2004), our church saw the need to build a playground to accomodate our ever-growing little ones. As you can tell by looking outside, we are well under way to completing the preschool play area, and beginning the older children's area. Next will be a social area of picnic tables for our youth group.

We praise God for all his riches and glory in the growth of His kingdom.

This is our church history, and as you can see, God has trully blessed Corinth Baptist Church through the years. We, the members of Corinth Baptist Church, thank God daily and give Him all the glory, for without Him we could do nothing, and without Him we would not grow.
